The competition returns for a second year with the aim to raise awareness of the fun and importance of communication.
The VoiceBox 2025 competition is now open for primary aged children across Scotland to share their best joke.
Primary Schools across Scotland kicked off the campaign by hosting joke competitions to bring laughter to Blue Monday. Taking centre stage was Cockenzie Primary in East Lothian, home of last year’s winner, Gordon Moodie.
VoiceBox is a national joke telling competition for primary school children developed by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), designed to raise awareness of the joy and importance of communication.
Glenn Carter, Head of RCSLT Scotland, said: “VoiceBox goes beyond entertainment; it highlights the vital role of speech and language therapy in empowering children to express themselves. Last year, it was brilliant to see all the kids at the Scottish Parliament, and the RCSLT was thrilled to have brought VoiceBox there, where it received such enthusiastic support. The joy and laughter shared highlighted the power of communication and the importance of nurturing it in our young people.”
Running from now until 1 April 2025, the competition allows one entry per school. Finalists will be chosen across the 32 local authorities to tell their jokes in front of MSPs and a judging panel at an in-person grand final event in the Scottish Parliament on 5 June 2025.
All finalists attending the event will receive £100 worth of HarperCollins books. The pupils with the three best jokes will receive a toy gift card worth up to £100 and £500 worth of Collins Big Cat books for their school.
