New EDS competencies podcast

7 June 2022

Today, the RCSLT publishes a new podcast episode on the pre-registration eating, drinking and swallowing (EDS) competencies featuring Kirsty Catling, professional education lead and lecturer at University College London, and Kathleen Graham, project coordinator at the RCSLT.

Listen to the podcast to learn more about the competency project and what it involves for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), clinicians and learners from the perspectives of both the RCSLT and an HEI.

Keen to learn more about the competency project once you’ve listened? Head over to the online EDS competencies hub for more details and to access further resources.

New to the competencies?

If this is your first time hearing about the competencies, start off by reading the full competency document (PDF).

You may also be interested in watching our webinar series, which gives more context to the project and answers key questions surrounding practice placements and competency sign offs.

Already implementing them?

If you’re in the process of implementing the competencies for your incoming learners, you may find the implementation timeline and end-point expectations guidance useful.

If your HEI does not already have a system in place to record sign-offs for competencies and placement hours, you may also be interested in the newly-updated sign off sheet (PDF) for both competencies and EDS exposure hours.

Working as a practice educator?

If you’re a practice educator working to fulfil the EDS exposure hours required for your learners, or a clinician who will be signing off competencies, you may be interested in the following resources:
