Helping people to have a good end of life

9 May 2023

Dying Matters Awareness Week runs from 8- 14 May 2023

In Dying Matters Awareness Week, we recognise the important role of speech and language therapists in ensuring people who have communication and eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties can maintain their relationships and live as well as possible, right up to the end of their lives.

Currently, there are very few speech and language therapy posts based within specialist palliative care teams and hospices. However, SLTs offer a unique skill set which can contribute to high quality end of life care.

We have a produced a factsheet with case studies outlining the ways speech and language therapists, working with other healthcare professionals, can enable people at the end of life to have a good death.
